Assistant Professor Aaron Rosengren has been honored with a grant from the University Consortium Research Opportunity to tackle critical research and educational obstacles concerning operations and space domain awareness in the cislunar (Earth-Moon-Sun system) space beyond the geostationary belt. This grant, in partnership with Virginia Tech, is sponsored by the United States Space Force (USSF) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), with a focus on addressing space object tracking challenges beyond geostationary orbit and advancing capabilities for current and future USSF space systems. The collaborative research and education network, known as Beyond Geostationary Earth Orbit (xGEO) and Robust Adaptive Space Domain Awareness (xRADAR), features a team of interdisciplinary researchers from various institutions, including Virginia Tech, the University of Colorado Boulder, the University of Michigan, San Diego State University, and the University of Texas at Austin, and an Advisory Board comprised of KBR, the AFRL, and the Aerospace Corporation, all working to investigate this fundamentally different orbital regime to support operations, tracking, and awareness.
