Professor Tom Bewley presented the recent work of the UCSD Flow Control & Coordinated Robotics Labs at the recent CommNexus headliner event entitled San Diego: The Hub for the New Age of Robotic Innovation.  Also presenting were Professor Al Pisano, Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering, Dr. Eugene Izhikevich, CEO of Brain Corp, and Tim McConnell, Director of Engineering at 3D Robotics.  To see the video click here.

A team of international researchers has discovered a new type of cool burning flames that could lead to cleaner, more efficient engines for cars. The discovery was made during a series of experiments on the International Space Station by a team led by Professor Forman Williams.  Researchers detailed their findings last month in the journal Microgravity Science and Technology. Professor Bitmead fell in love with control theory as a third-year applied mathematics major at the University of Sydney in 1974. This fall, he will head out to San Antonio to receive the Rufus Oldenburger medal, a lifetime achievement award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, for his significant contributions in the field.  Read More.

The Rufus Oldenburger Medal is a prestigious American Society of Mechanical Engineers award for lifetime achievements in automatic control. Inaugurated in 1968, the medal recognizes significant contributions and outstanding achievements in the field of automatic control. Such achievements may be, for example, in the areas of education, research, development, innovation, and service to the field and profession.

Professor Miroslav Krstic has been elected Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) " for pioneering contributions to PDE control and delay systems, nonlinear and adaptive control, extremum seeking, and applications to fluid flows and autonomous vehicles." Krstic has published 13 papers in ASME's Dynamic Systems and Control Division's (DSCD) flagship Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control and was the  plenary speaker at the 2009 ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Conference.
