Congratulations to Sonia Martinez who has been elevated to IEEE fellow for contributions to geometric control of mechanical systems, and the control of multi-agent networked systems.
Congratulations to James Friend who has been elevated to IEEE Fellow with the following citation: for contributions to acoustics, microfluidics and microactuation.
Professor Miroslav Krstic received the ASME Rufus Oldenburger Medal for lifetime achievements in automatic control at 10th ASME Dynamic Systems & Control Conference in Washington, DC. His acceptance lecture was on control of congested traffic. Krstic is MAE Department’s second recipient of the Oldenburger Medal, following Professor Bob Bitmead in 2014. This award recognizes contributions to understanding condensed matter and non-linear physics through shock compression.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) has ranked Mechanical Engineering, at UC San Diego, #2 in the world and #1 in the United States
Congratulations to Olivia Graeve, named one of the 100 Most Powerful Women of Mexico 2017 -- by Forbes Magazine Mexico
Google Scholar has released "Classic Papers: Articles That Have Stood The Test of Time", a collection of highly-cited papers in their area of research that have stood the test of time. Jorge Cortes and Sonia Martinez co-wrote this paper w/ Francesco Bullo, at UCSB, and it has made it to the top 3 in Automation & Control Theory
San Diego, Calif., May 1, 2017 -- A team of researchers at the University of California San Diego and Stanford University has received a $7.5 million, five-year grant to try to answer two fundamental questions: what is the memory capacity of a brain; and how does the brain process information with maximum energy efficiency.
Krstic received the Ragazzini Award of the American Automatic Control Council. The award is named after John Ragazzini, dean of engineering at Columbia and New York Universities in the 1940s and 1950s, who was the doctoral advisor of the giants of control engineering like Rudolph Kalman, Lotfi Zadeh (Berkeley), Eliahu Jury (Berkeley), and Gene Franklin (Stanford). Krstic received the award at the American Control Conference in Seattle.
Congratulations to Olivia Graeve who was elected a Fellow of The American Ceramic Society.
