Assistant Professor (tenure-track) and Associate/Full Professor

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE, http://maeweb.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California, San Diego, invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) and an Associate/Full Professor from candidates’ committed to, and experienced in, building an excellent and diverse academic environment. We seek candidates working on novel experimental or theoretical approaches in the area of mechanics of materials under extreme conditions, such as deformation and failure at extremely high rates and microstructural evolution in materials at extremes of pressure and temperature. Successful candidates should demonstrate potential to build on the department’s existing strengths in analytical, computational, and experimental solid mechanics at the multi-scale level and direct a strong research program. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate potential for teaching excellence and the highest standards of scholarship, and professional activity in their research. In addition, candidates will have demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a desire to participate in the School's diversity initiatives (http://idea.ucsd.edu/).

A Ph.D. degree is required in the area of Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. We especially welcome candidates who have contributed to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students or faculty in engineering.

Salary: Level of appointment commensurate with qualifications; salary based on UC pay scales and market conditions.

Assistant Professor-Plasma Science and Engineering

Successful candidates should demonstrate the potential to build on the department’s existing strengths in analytical, computational, and experimental plasma science and direct a strong research program. Candidates should also demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence as they will be expected to teach University students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, the highest standards of scholarship, and professional activity in their research. In addition, candidates will have demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a desire to participate in the School's diversity initiatives (http://idea.ucsd.edu/).

Temporary Lecturer

The UC San Diego Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering is seeking one or more temporary lecturers to teach between one and three courses per quarter during the 2016/2017 academic year. We seek applicants in all content areas and are particularly interested in applicants with the expertise to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in controls, design, environmental, fluid mechanics, information storage, mechanics & materials, robotics, biomedical, biomaterial, medical devices, combustion, plasma and fusion, and renewables.
